How many times have we all heard someone say to us “you have changed“? Most of the times it not the physical or positive change they are talking about. I tend to just smile and shrug it off when someone tells me that because it might just be the best reaction from me at that moment. Surprisingly, it is the people that are close to us that tend to say it the most.
Have you ever noticed it’s usually when you are achieving your goals, doing better things in life that’s when people begin to make such comments. I usually ask such people do you think I have worked this hard going through life to remain the same? Afterall we all know the only thing constant in life is change. Let’s face it such people may be shocked, envious or even worse unhappy about your progress but see it as a positive thing because it means they acknowledge your progress which is such a satisfaction.
It might be hard sometimes to receive such comment from people you truly know because you expect them to be the ones that should support you. Should you really go back to fit in their box? Would they really understand if you share your vision? Is it really worth it? Have I really changed? Should I blend in like them? This might be some of the questions you might be asking yourself but believe it or not the same people might be struggling with their own insecurities and not being able to achieve the very thing you have worked hard for or even be who you are.
Having these things in mind have helped me to continue to forge ahead in life by focusing on being the best version of myself and having the understanding that not everyone will be happy for you no matter how much you try. In the words of Winston Churchill “there is nothing wrong with change if it is in the right direction.
What are your thoughts about change?
